How to act during a drag show

The Townhouse’s Elegance Drag Show starts normally enough.

The host, Shamika Dupri gives the last performance of the night. After Shamika finishes lip syncing, she turns on her mic:

Shamika: “We get up here and put on a show for you guys, and it’s hard when people sneer and laugh. It’s disrespectful. I’m not a bitch, but I’m calling you out.”

Shamika points to a woman in the audience and goes off for a few minutes.
The woman is horrified.

Shamika then makes the woman come on the stage and calls to the audience: “I NEED THREE DOLLARS! NOW!”

The dollars appear. Shamika gives the dollars to the woman and says, “Now I’m going to perform, and you’re going to tip me.”

The DJ plays a song, and Shamika makes the woman give her one dollar at a time.

This is all painful to watch. Getting called out in front of the entire bar is bad enough. But, getting called out by the 6’4 drag queen who you just offended is probably the worst thing next to incurring the wrath of Oprah (who can make Rachel Ray appear wearing brass knuckles.)

After Shamika finishes she says, “This is how you’re supposed to act during a drag show!”

Now we know.
