Last week I decided to stop wasting my time.
I quit a clerkship, dropped a pair of toxic “friends” and told the boyfriend that I not getting any younger, these ankles are swelling, and it is time to finalize our adoption and mortgage plans…
Well, maybe not that last part, (That is for this week!) but I have realized that this blog is one of the things that is wasting my time.
This blog is supposed to be a journal and a time saver. It is neither.
The point of this blog is to avoid those redundant “status of things” conversations with friends. What happened is that many of my readers added me on facebook and gchat and I now have the “status of things” conversations with more people than ever.
All this pressure is because I haven’t condescended to post anything other than pictures of the mutts and quotes from my crackhead neighbors.
I have two big dogs and live in the ghetto. We get it. What else is going on?
Well,
The boyfriend – we are like preteens with more sighing and cackling (and less talk of Trace Cyrus.) Jeff mocks us by saying: “You’re the best, no you’re the best!” but we inform him that we don’t do that much talking.
School – What is there to say? I feel ridiculous for paying all this money for a generalist education. I thought that was what undergrad was for. Sure, I love corporate tax law, but corporate tax law is not going to pay the rent next summer when I graduate.
Career goals? Well, this summer I am still working at Thomson Reuters. I love working in Eagan and hopefully I can find a position at West or Findlaw when I graduate. Thomson Reuters is a relaxed and hilarious place to work, although I should probably buy some stock in Caribou coffee to recoup some of my smoothie costs…
The backup plan? This summer I am beefing up my design portfolio, learning flash, and applying to design/advertising firms. Part of the reason why I did not go to art school is because I have been designing since 6th grade.
I also thought law school was the more practical choice, but the tuition is paid and I’m not going to beat myself up over it. I figure that if I can navigate the tax code then I can navigate new design software, and I’ll be fine…or at least the most educated barista you know.
Your waste of time is our guilty pleasure. There shall be no talk of “waste of time” henceforth. More blogging, more tweeting, more something else media sounding!

Haha, well, the “lack of substantive” blogging was the real time waster. I’m fixing that.
This is totally off topic, but I was thinking about you when I was having breakfast this morning at Stanford/Hecht dining hall. For some reason it’s very popular for all the undergrads to wear these “Got Sober”, “Sobe(r)”, “Be Sober,” etc, t-shirts. They can’t really be that boring can they? I figure they must be giving those shirts away for free from some of the stuff I’ve read on here.
That’s totally what’s going on. Nothing is better than the keg picture while wearing that shirt.
We all thought we were making a decent choice by coming to law school, man. I would have loved one of those nice starting salaries, but really all I came here for was the opportunity to get a job.
It’s sad that so many of us regret, to varying degrees, coming here. The economy killed our job prospects. Law school always sucked, but now that half of us (or more) have shit employment prospects, it’s unbearable. I don’t like to ring the “conspiracy/scam” bell, but law school is a racket, and 75% of us are suckers.
I know you have a lot of prospective law student readers, so let me also beg them to do ANYTHING else. How I wish I were back in those pre-law school days wondering “what to do…” The world is your oyster, don’t cripple yourself with the debt, waste three years, and end up underemployed. Life’s too short, gang.

You should sign up for the tax clinic next year. More organized than many of the clinics and so much delicious tax-i-ness.
I haven’t even thought about next semester. I feel like a college senior who has nothing left to take…
