Uh, where the hell did the snow go?

There have been snowstorms to the north, south, east, and west, but somehow it is 40 degrees in Minneapolis. It’s mid-December and not only is there no snow in sight but some of my neighbors still have green frankenlawns. What the hell is going on here?

My Florida friends don’t understand it, but Minneapolis is really pretty during winter.

Maybe I’ll even make a road trip to see Bemidji in winter again.

I fear the ice is here to stay this time.

Winter isn’t quite as ominous as it was when I first moved here. I remembered sitting in Miami and wondering how the heck people layered clothes in Minnesota. That seems ridiculous now, but it was a pressing concern at the time.

The snow caused us to return to our old stomping grounds at the Lake of the Isles.

There were geese everywhere so we had to leave early. You know how Harley gets around goose poop. I can’t deal.

And the snow came.

That’s the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank, one of my favorite buildings. I haven’t seen the Occupy Minnesota protestors out there for a while. Maybe winter has done them in? Anyway, the building looks even better in winter.

Oh, and Gertrude loves the snow. Harley isn’t so sure.

The last day

The gig’s up. Tomorrow it snows. That means I’m spending as much time outside with the dogs as possible today. I took the dogs on a long hike by the Mississippi.

The walk was a little too long for Harley’s taste.

He’ll get over it.

The Winter Bike Rack

Someone found a solution to last year’s buried-bike problem:

Genius.

I see winter bike commuters every day and I can’t fathom doing it. People can barely drive cars without sliding into each other and I am not going to let some SUV slide into me while I’m showing the world how hardcore I am on my snow-caked bike.

No thank you mam. My bike is busy collecting dust until the big thaw.
